DescriptionWith the County of North Jutland and the regional cultural contract as its commitment, the general purpose of the Cumedin project is to establish an industrial communication-, consulting and service facility in the cross field of culture, industry and commerce. Its focus will be the production of content for the new media, or the so-called ”enabling technologies” such as visualization, graphics, mixing, navigating and digital media management.

Also the Cumedin project should feature a regional, nationwide and in the long term an international network and collaboration between cultural life and the business community, artists and businesspeople as well as cultural entrepreneurs and investors with the aim of eliminating the fear of contact between these worlds and to enhance the commercial potentials of the cultural industry.

The Cumedin should in particular be brought into being through an intensive further development of the Cumedin.dk Internet portal version 1 (see www.cumedin.dk).

Cumedin: Culture-Media-Industry, or in other words: Cultural industry with a focus on the production of content for the new media, eg. the Internet, mobile phones, game console, digital TV etc. The very production of content is currently considered to be the primary field of growth within the cultural industry.

The Cumedin project will generate a far higher degree of transparency between the cultural community and businesslife in Denmark with a focus on the production of content for the new media – in particular via the development of a so-called ”PlayZone”, or a meeting point on the Cumedin.dk Internet portal. The Portal will be developed to feature a far greater potential for dialogue and contact between artists and businesspeople in Denmark concerning projects, sponsorships, jobs, etc.

The Cumedin.dk will generate a higher degree of transparency and enable an improved dialog and contact between cultural life and business life by mapping the cultural industry.

The Cumedin project will establish a so-called ”SpringBoard” or a consultant group rostered by a range of professionals from cultural communities and businesslife to advice and service cultural entreprenurs in Denmark. This includes a sparring with each entrepreneur to go over business concepts and plans.

The Cumedin project will also establish a ”FinanceBoard” or a group of investors consisting of a range of professional investors with a special interest in the field of culture/business. They, too, will assess the businessplans of each cultural entrepreneur for venture capital, once they have been ”approved” by the Springboard.

The Cumedin will establish an innovative environment for cultural entrepreneurs similar to that of the NOVI. In the first go this will be covering the county of North Jutland, but on a long term basis it could expand to other counties in the way of a formal collaboration with the existing innovative environment concerning cultural business projects.

The Cumedin will establish a ”ResearchBoard” consisting of a range of acknowledged researchers within the field of culture and business. They will coordinate, edit and communicate relevant research information – in particular via the Cumedin.dk Internet portal.

The Cumedin will be operated on a commercial basis, so members must pay an annual subscription to receive member and network benefits. For example, member benefits could be advertising on the Cumedin.dk, and receiving newsletters for members, access to a unique content and services on the portal via a ”MemberZone”, future scenarios, case studies, study tours, access to participate in SpringBoard sesssions, innovative environments, etc.

The Cumedin will develop unique consulting and service facilities to be put at the disposal of both members and non-members. This could be arranging and running matchmaking sessions between artists and businesspeople, as well as conferences and seminars on the cultural industry.
