| Description | For many years the Aalborg Zoo has clearly been on the leading edge in IT development, and there is a desire to enhance and extend the technological level, which also applies to the field of presentation.
This will translate into the following initiative to enhance the presentation with several electronic developing projects. Together they should render a more intense experience to the visitors of the Aalborg Zoo, no matter if you can read or if you speak languages other than Danish.
The backbone in the entire catalogue to follow will be a wireless network covering the geographic area of Aalborg Zoo.
A number of mobile info stands will be deployed. They can be programmed via a central server, which offers an unprecedented mobility. They will be fed with information related to the animals and species on the location, and general information on the operation of the Aalborg Zoo including the environmental initiatives that are being implemented all the time
The stands can be used by ordinary readers, people with reading challenges, blind people, and foreign speakers
Using speach synthesis the text can be read aloud to those who may want to choose another language
In their present state the info stands are not intended to be weatherproof, and they will be located indoors, but further development will take place
An SMS service is envisioned to inform the visitors of the Aalborg Zoo of events on the day of call
The service is enabled by registering (and via SMS or the Web site), and will expire automatically by the end of the day or by manual cancelling
A service is envisioned to allow feeding via SMS, performed, however, by a keeper – as in a near future the law will prohibit feeding by the public
Furthermore this service can be extended to reunite lost children with their parents (which happens in great daily numbers during the high season)
The homepage of Aalborg Zoo will be extended to become more interactive
A feature to read the text of any page aloud will be provided for the visually disabled – in any language
The viewing of live as well as streamed images should be enabled on the homepage
The Citrix based network should enable the employees to deliver real time opdating of the stands where relevant
One side-effect is the possibility for the keeper to make use of online information on the health of the animals and their current feeding status, and they will be able to communicate with colleagues worldwide |
