DescriptionThe Digital Village is a project of cooperation between the municipalities of Brovst, Fjerritslev, Nibe, Arden, Nørager, Aars, Farsø and Løgstør.

What do We want to Achieve with the Project?
The goal of ”the Digital Villages” is two-fold. Partly this is an effort to maintain and develop the rural districts as vital enterprising and viable local communities and to attract new inhabitants to the villages. Futurologists have pointed out that family values and nature are high priorities among today's young families. So there is a wish to move into the countryside where such values thrive well, while real estate prices are relatively low. However, an obvious prerequisite for attracting young working people who are making daily professional use of IT technology, is the presence of a technical possibility to create workplaces at home combined with an ”office hotel” as an additional plus. These young families are making a high priority of the time they spend with their families, so it is important for the 8 villages to offer online shopping facilities one way or the other to eliminate the need for shopping once you are home from work.
This should partly future-orientate the villages and their citizens and commercial/industrial life by them utilizing the IT technology and making themselves part of the fast growing Internet. Also, our aim with this project is to make sure that industries and young people or other hi-tech minded people who want to be in the thick of a developing future can make their contribution from the villages, so that they will not necessarily have to move away.
Also – via the Internet and the home page www.digitale-landsbyer.dk - the project should help disseminating this concept, provide contacts, make commitments etc. with other present and future digital villages to strengthen their positions compared to the towns and cities – via fast moving communication exchanging experience and ideas, holding conferences etc.

What does It Take?
The instrument for these goals is the capability of offering a creative IT-village environment by offering education to the citizens and the commercial/industrial life of the villages and a capability of providing high speed connectivity, office hotels, local online shopping, local home pages produced by the local industry, private citizens, clubs and associations.

Organisation
A general steering group for all the municipalities involved will be established, consisting of political representatives, officials from the municipalities and the county, the industrial and commercial sectors, and representatives for associations and user groups. This group is in charge of completing the project.
For each municipality a task group will be established.
The success of the project is heavily depending on the commitment and enthusiasm of the 8 local task groups, as they will be the backbone in the profiling and the initiation of the project, - and in making it viable. The groups will consist of the municipal key person and representatives from: The institutions of the villages, the local commercial and industrial life, and local fiery souls. Typically the local general charge of the project will lie with the civic associations. It is important to emphasize that the structure and the managing functions should be placed on a local level.

Evaluation/Continuation
Evaluations will be held both on an ongoing basis and on concluding the project at the end of its 3 year life cycle.
Once the project period expires, a Village Group will be established consisting of representatives from the 8 villages with the object of continuing and developing the intentions of the project.
