| Description | As indicated by the project title, this is an investigation in the potentials of using IKT, when changing the ways we work and teach from conventional classroom teaching to a more project orientated education. The developing that will be carried out at Aalborg Studenterkursus, and our concluding viability assessment of the Radius software will, however, be of great value to other educational facilities (other educations for young people, the primary school and institutions of higher education).
In developing methodologies for project orientated education, it is important to be constantly able to trace the emphasis and focus in teaching. This is a central element in the project, and the planning tools play their role in pointing out to the teacher which intermediary aims and goals are included in the next phase of a project. The value of the hi-tech experience untold, the general experience with a systematic approach to the project orientated education will make its contribution to the development of a methodology and the use of IKT in education.
Specifically, a course of education will be established to catalyse inspiration and ideas for colleagues, and to be presented on the concluding seminar of the project. Generally we are looking at the following points of focus for the project:
Organisational Development
On a quite general level, we will see a development of Aalborg Studenterkursus, which was initiated 2-3 years ago with the integration of IKT playing an increasing role within both teaching and administration.
Supplementary Training of Teachers
The project includes an integrated and specific supplementary training of teachers of the Studenterkursus with a focus on new ways of teaching and methodologies which the Ministry of Education has laid down as a prerequisite in future teaching on a gymnasium level (equalling Upper Secondary level).
The Effects of an Education Planned with an Element of Flexibility
A part of testing the project orientated teaching with IKT integrated will mean a differently planned course of teaching. Thus we will achieve specific results and experience with a flexibly planned teaching in an approach combining classroom teaching and distance learning.
Quality in Project Education
With a more flexibly planned and maybe more liberal teaching method, the procurement of quality in the education is obviously important, also because this could entail extended periods of time during which the student will work on his own. Via the employment of IKT the teacher will have the opportunity to supervise the project work of student groups and single students during an entire project course.
Greater responsibility and Cooperation to the Student
The changed ways of working will require even greater charge to the student in the way of responsibility and co-determination, and they will motivate the students and test them on their capabilities of cooperation. The central Radius software in combination with the FirstClass conference system will further enable the students to produce their project, material and results in a process that can be supervised in every step by the teacher who can assist with comments, reviews and evaluation
The Project Methodology as an Integral Part of Distance Learning
The Aalborg Studenterkursus is already offering subjects for exams on an A-level (studentereksamen) on a distance learning basis. In this project we will achieve experience in employing the IKT supported project methodology on both traditional classes and distance learning classes. |
