| Description | It is a pleasure to present our plans for the IT development for the city of Egense – and we are proud to count ourselves among the winners of the IT Lighthouse call for proposals by the County of North Denmark.
The region of Egense has a tradition for creating and maintaining the sense of community among the citizens by means of e.g. a large number of clubs and associations i.e. communities of interest
Over the recent years, Egense - like most other small village communities have experienced a notable change in the level of public service as the various service functions are constantly moving further away from the area.
A new association is now on its way, an IT Association with the aim of bringing the World closer, to enhance the community and to contribute to making this part of the region an attractive place to live and providing safe and inspiring conditions for growing up as a child/young person in Egense.
The plans are to establish a multimedia workshop in the rooms of the Private Independent School of Egense – and thus provide access for the pupils to a well equipped workshop for educational use during school hours and to make the equipment available to the citizens - kids, youngsters, seniors – during afternoons and evenings.
On a short term basis, the goal is to raise an interest in the new media to demystify the entire IT subject – especially to the seniors – , enabling each citizen to experience a direct use value and a meaningful use of e.g. the Internet. This way the level of service can be raised again for each citizen.
With a fast developing IT sector, it would be unfortunate to loose a whole or maybe even one and a half generation. So in the first round, the goal is to familiarize the citizens of Egense with the new media.
On a long term basis, we plan to establish a homepage for our town – and in this way create a strong and useful network for all inhabitants and users of the community – including tourists, our industrial sector, the church, the police…
IT can add several benefits within the fields of service and significantly eliminate the difference in conditions for towns and rural districts, at the same time enabling the rural community to maintain benefits like nearness and close relationships.
The visions for the project which runs for 3 years are manyfold. Energy is great, and the amount granted by the IT Lighthouse marks the kick off of the Digital Village of Egense.
Kind regards the IT project team, Egense
