DescriptionThe goal of the The Digital Building Process project is to achieve considerable improvements in quality and productivity in the building projects and enterprises. These results are to be achieved by means of modern management tools on the Web enabling us to create a new industrial building tradition using new ways of collaboration and efficient methods of communication.

Over the last 20-30 years productivity in the Danish building industry has been stagnant. There is quite a few indications that building rates are more expensive than in other countries so that today house owners and tenants in Denmark get less for what they pay – an hence a relatively lower housing and living standard. The DDB project will aim to help this by utilizing the great potential of combining modern net based IT systems, changed ways of collaboration and efficient communication.
In this way building companies in North Denmark will have their IT know-how and qualifications enhanced to enable them to carry out advisory services for construction work on a global scale. At the same time we will achieve higher quality and value for the money.

The New ways of collaboration mentioned in the DDB project will entail a change in the distribution of roles and tasks in a building project. The changes are documented and communicated in simple graphic models, which are made available on the Internet with the remaining documentation of the building project.

The companies participating in the DDB project will develop and test the graphic models in 1 to 3 experimental projects. The models will make a picture of how to collaborate, - who does what and when. Through the daily use of the Internet and the prototype work the participants will achieve an enhanced ability to work with the new IT techniques and ways of communication.

This improvement in qualifications will be utilized internally in the companies for a rationalization of the work procedures and an improvement of the external communication. This will also open possibilities for making more efficient use of the existing IT systems as you will be enabled to utilise the potential for integration that is present with the Internet. Also the companies will have an opportunity to adjust their quality management systems to the requirements of the new ISO regulations, which point out that the KS systems are to be process orientated.

The DDB project is a strategic project which introduces some new principles in North Denmark. This requires extensive reorganizations in the building industry but then again the openings for quality improvement and savings are significantly improved.

Finally the DDB project contains specific initiatives for a permanent development and formation of qualifications of both the participating parties, their customers and suppliers and colleagues in the building industry - altogether arranged via a line of educational institutions in North Denmark.

The group behind the DDB project is aiming to render the project a locomotive function in the development of the building industry in North Denmark.
